Pirates! Ninjas! Zombies! Robots! Dodgeball!

April 10th, 2008

I’m so glad that I have a PS3 for all of my Blu-ray playing needs, because in addition to both of the great PS3 games that have been released, you can download shopping bags full of kickass like Pain, the most amusing game ever made by anyone ever.

Until now. And by now I mean sometime this spring.

Coming out soon for download on XBOX Live and the Playstation 3 Network is “Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball.” But oh no, it doesn’t stop there. There’s a robot team and a zombie team too. JOY!

At least we’ll leave beautiful corpses

April 10th, 2008

We’re all gonna die. Again.

A minister, Ronald Weinland, proclaims that God made him a prophet in 1997, when I was unavailable for the position because I was too drunk in college. He wrote his new book, “2008 – God’s Final Witness,” which talks about how this is it, we’re all screwed, and billions are going to die.

At least this guy, unlike Nostradamus, is giving his predictions away on the internet. What a sweetheart.

*coughbullshitcough*

Personally, I’m hoping the end comes in the form of a zombie apocalypse, rather than a nuclear winter, but you don’t always get what you want.

The BBC Rules, YouTube can suck it!

April 2nd, 2008

I’m not a man who’s easily impressed. Well, I am a man who is easily impressed, but not “Wow! A blue car!” easily impressed. But today, the secondteenth day of the fourth month of the 1,208th year since the Europeans decided to start a calendar 800 years in the past (makes sense; think about it), the British have impressed me.

Flip on any video on YouTube. Turn up the volume. Note that YouTube’s volume slider isn’t numeric.

The BBC’s is. And their amps go to eleven. Check out Robin Williams taking over a BBC America chat show when they were having technical difficulties, and turn the volume up. To eleven. Sweet sweet eleven.

Faceless mega-corporation, youz my fwiend!

March 20th, 2008

So many of us that look at the goddamned fucking stupid megalodons of the suburban throughway and think of the frustration we’ve learned was the price of admissions at the Best Buy, the Circuit City and the so on.

Well, they’ve gone ahead and done something that’s shockingly good for the consumer. Remember way back a few weeks ago when HD-DVD had a chance? Once Blu-ray became the clear winner and Toshiba backed off HD-DVD development once and for all, Best Buy and Circuit City made their move:

  • Best Buy is giving $50 gift cards to people who bought HD-DVD players before 2/28
  • Circuit City is accepting returns of HD-DVD players 90 days after the date of purchase

Granted Blu-ray players are still in the $400-500 range, so just go buy a PS3 that has one and play me online get more for your money. Or wait 6 months and buy ‘em cheaper. If I were Sony (and surprisingly, I’m not) I’d keep the prices up just a little bit longer, partially to gloat, but mostly because of the bath they took on PS3 sales.

New stuff everywhere!

March 17th, 2008

A lot’s been going on, so I’ll give a quick update. I have a lot of new pictures up, some of me, some of Meg, some of bands. Have a look and if you like ’em you can subject yourself to an afternoon of me taking pictures of you while telling you to look natural and stop smiling like an idiot.

I never write anymore, mostly because myspace bugs me, so I’m moving the blog offsite. It’s not pretty, there’s not a ton of content, but www.Cynicgazette.com is definitely there. So go bookmark it, grab the feed (note to self, set up RSS feed) and enjoy me in non-myspace format. So that’s new too. You’re going to start seeing posts here telling you there are new posts there for a little while, but that’s not going ot last forever. And if I can ever dump these out and move ’em over there, well, super.

New roommates are coming soon too. The era of Mike’s and my dual-throned rule over Parkville is slowly coming to an end. In a few weeks, we cap off 5 awesome years of living together and having a great time. Even though he’ll be down the street, I’m going to have a hard time dealing with it, but it’s time. And I have a good reason.

Most of you know already, but in case you don’t, Meg and I are moving in together! She’ll be moving into my place in April, and as much as I’m going to miss living with Mike, I can’t wait to live with Meg :)

So that’s the skinny on me. Pictures, blog, girlfriend moving in. And I had my wisdom teeth out recently too. I would have mentioned that earlier, but this is about new stuff, and not about having less old stuff.

I wouldn’t say I’ve been missing it Bob…

March 10th, 2008

Moving to wordpress is something that I’ve been meaning to do for the better part of my blogging career, and you think that with web development as my career, my side job and one of my hobbies, I’d actually make some progress from time to time.

Well, it’s taken me just under a month to delete the “hello world” post and write something more meaningful, and while the word “meaningful” is debatable at this point, it’s better to have something than nothing, and this run-on falls under that umbrella. So horray for that.

Unlike the old cynicgazette from the days of old, and the myspace blog, I’m departing from the I-wish-I-was-Dave-Barry thing a little bit and I’m going to be as geeky as I want. I want to be able to geek out about photography, talk freely about web stuff I think is cool, bash pseudoscience crap that gives me a headache and … well, do the I-wish-I-was-Dave-Barry thing.

I’m going to note new posts here in my myspace blog until I set up a script to do it for me, but for the most part, I’m done blogging there. I’ll beautify this place soon enough, but in the meantime you’ll have to deal with it looking a little rough. Sorry. Think of it as a kickback to Thoreau’s “simplify, simplify, simplify” thing. You know, when he wasn’t going on about the damn bean farm.

On that note, I’m going to run down to Wholefoods for a congratulatory snack. It’s the most web 2.0 place to eat ever.

I knew Airborne was bullshit!

March 6th, 2008

One reason I love Meg so much is that she really knows me. A few minutes ago she sent me information about Airborne’s settlement, and that’s it’s been proven that Airborne’s bullshit.

NPR Article: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=87937907

Their evidence is a company paid trial of ONLY TWO people. No clinical controls. No sample of a statistical relevant size. So they’re settling by refunding people for buying their sham product.

This is the best thing I’ve seen all day, and it makes my wisdom teeth hurt less. How about that.. it looks like Airborne really did cure something :)

Since everyone’s asking about birthday plans…

February 8th, 2008

…there aren’t any. Not as such by design, I just haven’t gotten around to it because I’m a pretty busy guy. I’m not against doing anything, I just haven’t really thought about it much more in-depth than “I’d like to have pizza at some point.” Currently the only thing I have planned for the weekend is to go to the motorcycle show tomorrow, and probably a little happy hour with Meg and her work pals today.

So there you go.

Oh yeah, I want to go to coldstone at some point too.

So, umm, yeah. Sorry for the anticlimax. Something will probably happen tomorrow night, and I might just call that the birthday night out. Or I might just hook up the VCR on Monday (actual birthday) and see who wants to come over and watch The Leningrad Cowboys Go America (I’m not kidding). We’ll see.

Google Reader Anonymous

January 10th, 2008

I revel in my geeky addictions (for which Meg has infinite patience) like my iPhone, Flickr, Podcasts, PS3 (especially Pain), teh internets, Google reader, Photoshop and … well the list goes on. Today, I’m looking for other people who are addicted to Google reader, which I check, oh, say, 150 times a day.

I’m subscribed to a bunch of Flickr photo pools, about 30 tech and web news feeds, design feeds,iCanHasCheezBurger.com, and another 30 others I’m just not motivated enough to mention. I click that share button from time to time, but who do I share with?

Now I share with thee. I mean you. Thee means you, right? Whatever. Now I share with you.

To grab the feed of articles, images, videos, lolcats and whatever I find interesting enough to microblog about but don’t microblog about, add this to Google reader, or your favorite news aggregator:

My Google Reader RSS Feed (click to add)

It’ll come up as “KincaidKMF’s shared items” since I didn’t always use the moniker “Joisey Mike” (note to self — do a super-nerdy screen name/online identity blog) and it’ll contain anything I come across that catches my interest so I won’t have to IM it.

Also if you use the mighty Google reader, or any other thing that can make you a feed of YOUR shared items, please comment it here or email me, I’d love to see what you think’s interesting/funny/gross/whathaveyou.

Btw, work’s having a free breakfast of muffins, danish, scones and more. On behalf of Dr. Atkins, I raise my middle finger in rebellion and just drink more coffee.
